I admit I have been very lax in my baboonology for the bulk of this year. This is a combination of mostly having better things to do coupled with what I guess can be called cognitive RSI – the gibberish at freefromthoughtblogs and skepchick, for me, is a cumulative toxin and repeat exposure does not allow for immunisation, but rather the nausea has steadily increased to the point that it is now actually painful to see. Nevertheless, I have maintained a reasonable level of awareness of their relentless psychodramatics and 唱板板 via private channels and various news feeds.
It was the latter that pointed me to a link containing the first quote above, which leapt out from the surrounding sea of yet another pernicious, well poisoning, muckraking, pro-baboon tumblr page. The statement in itself maligns no one directly – its real repugnance lies in what it expects of the reader. It is perhaps the most succinct précis I have seen to date that represents what, ultimately, is freefromthoughtblogs’ and skepchick’s true mission statement –
“scrutinise and question everything; ‘everything’ of course, does not include us. Us you believe, always and without evidence, for we are faith based organisations. Every time you doubt anything we say, no matter how preposterous, we drown a kitten”. (more…)

The Talking Prune’s desperation to cherry-pick for the sake of confirmation bias is well documented and now the stuff of legend. Of all the baboons, she is the one that most consistently has determination enough to bloody her fingernails while scraping the bottom of the barrel.
This is all very much evident in her current barfing – she somehow managed to stumble across the latest, but certainly not the greatest, outrage from a second tier wannabe provocateur cum1 yellow journalist Kyle Sandilands in faraway in Australia (upside down land for the baboons).

It’s that time again, when Becky has been caught red-handed doing something stupid and/or gratuitously self-serving and/or criminal and knowing full well that there is no way to back-peddle, deny or squirm her way out of it, Becky falls back on her reliable triple-play of trivialisation, distraction and playing the victim card about being bullied by the misogynist conspiracy – with the usual quote mining, context abuse, disregard for reality and outright deception.
Becky takes exception to my calling her “dumber than dogshit” (and a shopping list of other crimes I’ll return to later) over her latest boot-in-mouth numbskullery in proclaiming to the world, with a very sincere face, that the church executed Galileo. Evidently it’s just a twee boo-boo that should just be overlooked, especially when its from such an eminent and universally admired intellectual as herself, and that it’s all being blown out of proportion by nasty and jealous assholes. When a member of an online community announces they are leaving, usually after a protracted disagreement with other members of the community.
“I’m gone. You all enjoy your little discussions.”
This definition really needs to be expanded to include the serial flounce or the flounce yo-yo, those that rejoin communities after a melodramatic exit, usually with much pomp and grandiosity, only to leave again ad nauseam. And with guilt laid on with a trowel.
At the core of this dumbness is a basic reality – some folks should just leave the internet alone, for all our sakes, but especially their own. The old maxim is as valid is ever – if you can’t stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen. To venture into any online community with the assumption that you will never receive criticism, and even occasional abuse, is beyond simply naive – it is fragile Pollyannaism. Especially when you spend significant amounts of time criticising others whilst perched precariously on a self-constructed moral high ground. It courts psychological disaster. (more…)
