I’m going to pull an Ophelia Benson and just do a block text dump, add a line or two and pretend I’m a huge intellectual.

Loading the Language

The language of the totalist environment is characterized by the thought-terminating cliche. The most far-reaching and complex of human problems are compressed into brief, highly reductive, definitive-sounding phrases, easily memorized and easily expressed. These become the start and finish of any ideological analysis. In thought reform, for instance, the phrase “bourgeois mentality” is used to encompass and critically dismiss ordinarily troublesome concerns like the quest for individual expression, the exploration of alternative ideas, and the search for perspective and balance in political judgments. And in addition to their function as interpretive shortcuts, these cliches become what Richard Weaver has called “ultimate terms”: either “god terms,” representative of ultimate good; or “devil terms,” representative of ultimate evil. In thought reform, “progress,” “progressive,” “liberation,” “proletarian standpoints” and “the dialectic of history” fall into the former category; “capitalist,” “imperialist,” “exploiting classes,” and “bourgeois” (mentality, liberalism, morality, superstition, greed) of course fall into the latter. Totalist language, then, is repetitiously centered on all-encompassing jargon, prematurely abstract, highly categorical, relentlessly judging, and to anyone but its most devoted advocate, deadly dull: in Lionel Trilling’s phrase, “the language of nonthought.” (more…)

The Center for Ideology

Let me paint a landscape for you as 2012 ceased to be…

On November 12 2012, Russel Blackford, in a rare moment of absolute exasperation, tweeted what most folks actually feel, but restrain themselves from articulating –

I will NOT be attending any convention / conference that features Rebecca Watson as a speaker. What were the Australian Skeptics thinking? smh

— Russell Blackford (@Metamagician) November 12, 2012

On November 10, Rebecca Watson took her very own brand of air-headed cluelessness to new heights in a talk at Skepticon 5, dragging evolutionary psychology through the mud as some kind of tool of patriarchal oppression. Whether Blackford’s tweet was a direct result of this exhibit of buffoonery or not is not known, but doesn’t seem likely given the video was not posted until November 20. If by some chance it did, it only vindicates Blackford’s outburst as Watson now consistently paints a picture of skeptics and atheists to the outside world as a bunch of ill-educated, poorly read, perpetually squabbling clowns. Remember Galileo Becky? No, that was not an excusable “slip up” – it’s basic junior high school level history/science knowledge. It reeked of the pig ignorance of a stupid girl-child that fills her vast expanses of idle time between booze ups playing video games and tweeting snark instead self-education – the latter being what many folks would assume came as a minimum responsibility for someone that feeds at the teat of the community and claims to represent it. Well, we’ll see about that. I’m just going to leave your words as they are. They say all that needs saying –

samizdat – System whereby literature suppressed by the Soviet government was clandestinely written, printed, and distributed; also, the literature itself. Samizdat began appearing in the 1950s, first in Moscow and Leningrad, then throughout the Soviet Union. It typically took the form of carbon copies of typewritten sheets that were passed from reader to reader. The subjects included dissident activities, protests addressed to the regime, transcripts of political trials, analyses of socioeconomic and cultural themes, and even pornography. Samizdat disappeared when media outlets independent of the government emerged in the early 1990s.Merriam-Webster Concise Encyclopedia (more…)

I’ll just leave this here. Only had shitty 3rd party screencaps before. Says everything about Rebecca Watson and the hysterical numbskulls that support her. Yes, I’m looking at you Novella.

“We’re popular. Really we are. Please believe us.”

The Atheism+ shills are still bombarding the web on any white space that’s available and still conning gullible web-zines and newspapers for free advertorials on the new, improved brand of snake oil. Building a bogus presence that is somehow representative of the greater community out of snappy soundbites and flatulent wind.

Whilst the chumps at these journals may fall for the hogwash by abdicating editorial responsibility, and the laziness of not creating genuine content instead of relying on cheap filler, the unfortunate and very visible reality is that the greater community is now far more capable of spotting cheap confidence tricksters and is refusing to buy into it at all. And the really grim reminders of reality are found in the oddest of places, such as UrbanDictionary

On September 3rd, someone posted an entry, rather accurate if snide, of Atheism+. It took the subnormals at Atheism+ over a month to notice and react in the all to familiar manner –

Brings value to SGU, apparently

Mere logical fallacies are no longer sufficient to capture the full scope of the collective derangement that pours unchecked out of freefromthoughtblogs, Skepchick and now it’s brain-damaged crack-baby Atheism+. Their cocktail of rabid witch-hunting, indoctrinational disinformation and the nouveau theology of Oppression is birthing its whole own schema of perfidious gobbledygook that defies classification as simply fallacy and deserves its own sub-section in the Skeptics Dictionary – that of logical incoherencies.

A couple, such as ad himinem and reductio ad Watsonum, have been mentioned previously. A broader principle, that of Myers’ law – that what you say to any denizen of their sheltered workshops never has any realistic relation to what they actually hear – has also been postulated and covers the origin of much of the baboons’ general incoherence. Myers’ law is easy enough for anyone to verify by simply attempting to initiate a discussion in any of their forums (degree of difficulty: like falling off a toilet drunk). (more…)

Demonisation of the other is as old a human pursuit as exchanging sex for personal advantage and the quest for mind altering chemicals. Common motivators are personal power plays, petty revenge or the common malice of the Queen bee high school girl. The unacknowledged motivator however is to accentuate the alleged shortcomings of the other, which almost always are trivial in comparison to the character failures of the finger pointer, and thus distract from where the real rot lies.

Zwan’s anti-Justin Vacula petition is a prime example. As discussed previously, this is a case of a pretty worthless exhibit of humanity lacking both the skill and intellect to contribute anything meaningful to life exercising jealous spite to skewer someone that does. And in the broader freefromthoughtblogs perspective, it looks like a case of Goldilocks and the Three Gallows(more…)

Funny how appropriate images tend to find you

Another day, another new low from freefromthoughtblogs. It’s become a race to the bottom to see who can be the viler piece of shit. Sulky Amy (who kicks ass on a daily basis) made a superhuman effort, firstly with her crocodile tears at this years TAM, followed by her spurious DMCA takedown party (copies of notices). But now, Stefanny Zwan is going for gold by launching a petition against a fellow community member, a person that actually does stuff other than whine and wallow in self pity1, Justin Vacula

Secular Coalition for America: Remove Justin Vacula from a leadership position in the PA chapter of SCA

(On the off chance that change.org actually does take down petitions that serve no purpose other than to defame, a mirror of the petition can be seen here)

The immediate absurdity is, of course, how Zwan, or any baboon blogger (let alone any of the minions of subnormals that constitute their readership), could ever declare anyone as being “unfit for any leadership position” – a sentiment parroted ad nauseam in the comment section, as per patented FfTB synchronised individuality – the absurdity being the implication that one of their own could somehow be more “worthy”.
