Becky's other outfit

“These are people who desperately want to insult me, but have neither the wit nor the intelligence to do it properly.”Our Becky

Ouch. I don’t know how I can ever recover my dignity.

It’s that time again, when Becky has been caught red-handed doing something stupid and/or gratuitously self-serving and/or criminal and knowing full well that there is no way to back-peddle, deny or squirm her way out of it, Becky falls back on her reliable triple-play of trivialisation, distraction and playing the victim card about being bullied by the misogynist conspiracy – with the usual quote mining, context abuse, disregard for reality and outright deception.

Becky takes exception to my calling her “dumber than dogshit” (and a shopping list of other crimes I’ll return to later) over her latest boot-in-mouth numbskullery in proclaiming to the world, with a very sincere face, that the church executed Galileo. Evidently it’s just a twee boo-boo that should just be overlooked, especially when its from such an eminent and universally admired intellectual as herself, and that it’s all being blown out of proportion by nasty and jealous assholes. Replay of a replay of a replay. (more…)

The Fembot Delusion - you cannot kill what does not live

When you profess to be a freethinker, it is a peculiar form of cowardice that has no shame at ridiculing Michele Bachmann1 with frat-boy sexual innuendo and peabrain insult over an unfortunate frankfurter incident, yet turns a deliberate blind eye to jaw-dropping idiocy when it’s perpetrated by one of your own.

But PZ Myers is a guy for whom double-, or even triple-, standards just don’t provide enough wiggle room. The man is a rainbow of expedient contradictions and knows no limits, always willing to conform to any ideology, providing it displays the correct (and mutually advantageous) rebellious and vengeful slave phenotype.

So when things are pretty slow over at the baboon board, a guy as resourceful as the Naked One – who never sees problems, only opportunities – takes full advantage and usefully fills the void by reaffirming his toilet slavery and resurrecting the carcass of the atheist misogyny meme for the umpteenth time –

Roseanne Barr gets swept away by Wagner

OK, let’s talk about hatred shall we?

The Watsonistas certainly do. Relentlessly. In fact, if you take their word for it, outside of Saudi Arabia, the greatest concentration of misogynists and rape apologists on Earth can be found within the atheist and skeptic communities and a woman that attends any of their events and escapes without being sexually assaulted is in a rare minority (and probably a traitor and collaborator).

Perhaps the Watsonista that most openly, honestly and unambiguously expresses the true sentiments of all involved is Skeptifem. While others go to great lengths to disguise their hatreds as concerns, she has no such inhibitions and just lets her venom drip. A great display can be seen in an extended rant against male-friendly women, appropriately titled inside the mind of a gender traitor. It is worth reading this extract with care as there is an unusual observation to be made – (more…)

The irony of The Naked Emperor starting something with freethought in its name, after all his recent shenanigans, is mind boggling. It’s like Jeffrey Dahmer wanting to claim he was a vegan.

Ostensibly, the move is presented as having something to do with a change in governance of ScienceBlogs – with National Geographic taking over the helm. With a very straight face, PZ also burbles about free speech, remaining uncompromising, and avoiding possible culture clashes as the reasons for deciding to relocate. What a funny thought – PZ compromising himself… technically, that’s not quite the same as capitulating is it?

The riot act read out in the site’s grand opening is something to behold – (more…)

We are Watsonista. You will be assimilated.

I should know better than to have optimism. There was a brief window, that spanned the transition from the last millenium to our new one, where I entertained the foolish hope that perhaps we had actually left the politics of division behind us as a relic of a stupider age. Haha. Do I have egg on my face or what?

Yes I was premature in my hopes, and had suspended my Cynical reason. As Sidney J. Harris once timelessly quipped –

A cynic is not merely one who reads bitter lessons from the past, he is one who is prematurely disappointed in the future.

True, he was referring to small “c” cynics, but it’s nevertheless a sensible attitude to have. Overestimating your fellow (wo)man rarely ends in anything other than tears.

Fairly early in the piece1 I was noting the eerie parallels between the Watson circus, it’s distinctly neo-puritan overtones, and various fundamentalist ideologies. Specifically, it’s self-hating flagellant mindset, paranoid persecution and martyr fantasy (a la islamism) and delight in scapegoating and denunciation. I was far from alone in these observations. The more you keep rummaging around in this moral panic morass that the Gruesome Twosome tag-team of Becky Watson and The Naked Emperor have drowned us in, the more you come to realise that you are not even getting close to hitting the bottom of the barrel as far as sheer human decrepitude goes.

Myers, to some extent, can perhaps be excused for being a patsy, a dupe, a shmuck, a conscious man / toilet slave, a naive simpleton, or perhaps even having Stockholm Syndrome from a lifetime of being cuckolded and forced to eat doo-doo. (more…)

The Dead Kennedys

So forget impending government doom for now. The far more realistic threat of a totalitarian surveillance and censorship state will not arrive via that route in the short term, but by one less anticipated. One could argue that it is already here. Of the twin dystopias of Orwell’s Nineteen Eighty-Four and Huxley’s Brave New World, it would appear that Huxley’s vision was by far the most prescient – and the reasoning for that is captured with absolute perfection in this web comic by Stuart McMillan. [Far too big to reproduce here, but you can also download a 7.5 meg .pdf copy. Bonus trivia, McMillan is an OzBrisbanite]

The absolute policing of our thoughts and (except for Britain where its already a fact of life) saturation surveillance will not arrive by gunpoint and anonymous spiffily uniformed thugs. It will be (and already has been) invited in the door by the general public that is oblivious to what they are enabling. (more…)
