I suspect you suffer from the delusion that atheists are smarte than the average person. It isn’t so.
Given that atheists are no more likely to be skeptics than anyone else, especially lala land, white, middle class, females who took wymons studies and how to talk shite effectively, you’ll just have to fight the good fight.
What is crazy is having, so called, skeptic groups give them a platform and to pay them to spout shite.
Point me to where I have claimed atheists are smarter – or more ethical for that matter. The bulk of my output is highlighting the actual opposite. This “new” new atheism of the populist mass is as stupid, self-indulgent and morally corrupt as anything that theists have ever come up with. I lost the illusion a long, long time ago.
My apologies, I know that you’ve been arguing against the gnu atheists/atheists+ crap for a long time. Even before it became blatently obvious to most sane people that watson/pz etc are loons you noted the coming debacle.
I’m just a little suprised that you seem to expect rational argument to win the day, that presupposes that the people you are trying to warn, atheists mostly, have a modicum of rationality and are skeptical in their approach to claims; that is what I meant by”smarter” than average.
I still worry more about the self claimed skeptics who are funding these twats. Their buying into this in large numebrs is more worrying to me than further splits in atheism, which was never a unified creed in any case.
It is wrong to assume that I am trying to ‘win” an argument, just as it’s wrong to assume I have a “side” in this debacle. Mostly, I just amuse myself. There is no “winning” with most of the folks at FfTB or Skepchick – as far as I am concerned they are beyond repair broken units. All I really hope to achieve is to give those not yet poisoned by their brain fungus the tools with which to avoid infection.
Other than that, I am a nobody. Nobody ever links my material directly. No one ever cites me accurately. Yet everyone seems to know me. I am a bogeyman, a spook. I am the noise beyond the light of the baboon’s camp fires that their witchdoctors invent demon stories about to frighten the credulous. I am Keyser Söze. And I have no intention to stop.
“Futility” is only a word that is relevant to those that think of “sides”, “winning” and “losing”.
Every human endeavor suffers from johnny-come-latelys who think they are better than the others and those who came before.. and the atheist community is no different. Varieties of Atheists
The New “new” New Atheist – These people often, but not always, overlap with the angry atheists. It is great to be a new atheist, because you are always learning about new ideas in the community. It is rough to be a new atheist, because you are not yet aware which arguments and ideas by fellow atheists are supported by evidence, and which have been debunked. At best, you become an enthusiast. At worst, you walk into your local atheist group’s message board wanting to talk about this cool Zeitgeist video you found.

Hey Franc–did you ever look up Watson’s legal history? She declared bankruptcy a few years ago–but here’s the best part: she changed the spelling of her name when she did it!
Talk about pseudonyms–I found some 3 different spellings of her name. Sociopaths….
No, a) your email bounced when I queried you to clarify, b) I’m not leaving cc details at one of these snoop sites for a “free” trial to see what your info was, and c) I need more info why the this is relevant. Balls in your court. My email is in my gravatar.
I replied to your email, in case you didn’t get it, and I raise a few date questions. Other than that, you should know I’m beyond just skeptical about what I see, and that coincidence is a bizarre phenomenon that, if not kept on a leash, can lead to apophenia. Yes, it is enticing information. However, it is not concrete information. From what you have pointed out, there is nothing thus far that can rule out coincidence as the most credible hypothesis.
Franc–I didn’t get your e-mail. Did you send it to hmamail, or rocketmail?
Please forward your thoughts tome at the e-mail I will use to post this comment.
I agree–it could lead to apophenia–but only if one is predisposed. I think apophanie is less likely than epiphany if you follow it through.
Skeptical is good when pondering unknowns like ‘is there life on Mars’, but really, this is like aturd from a known species–you just have to test the hypotheses against known data.
In this case, you and others possess known data, and the info you have in your possession is a rock sample churning in the chemical compounding belly belly of a rover.
It just needs confirmation of substance.
But for now, just keep it under your hat, there’s more;-)
I thought the accommodationist vs. hard-liner argument going around was a reasonable split. Some people didn’t like Dave Silverman’s attention-getting, harsh statements in the media and others were highly critical of SJG’s non-overlapping magesteria, but no one was being threatened with exile and alienation because of their views. That something which should be so simple as social justice could be co-opted and used by a horde of feminazis to divide the movement is just sad.
Sad? It’s like Pol Pot marching into your village, promising to save you from yourself, stealing your belongings, burning your village to the ground, then marching you at gunpoint to the New Utopia. There are many words to use. For me “sad” is not very high on the list.
Holy shit! Did PZ just speak out against common FTBullies behavior? freethoughtblogs.com/pharyngula/2012/12/11/stop-now/ Or is there something else going on here?
