It is always nice to see newcomers that step into the slime-pit that is the Watson / PZ Myers / Skepchick / Pharyngudrone freakshow take the time out to do their own deconstruct of the stupidity. Especially when it’s a girl. While girls are easy to dismiss with accusations of gender traitor, it doesn’t work with quite the same efficacy as accusations of misogyny hurled at boys that do the same.
It is even more delicious when it’s from a girl that is not an active member of either the godless or skeptic communities and is an outsider looking in. Such a person is Mandy Michelle, aka blastedgoat, which is the same moniker she uses on Youtube.
I really don’t have anything to say here other than well done Mandy. Blat, blat, blat. You pretty much nailed all of the big issues in one hit. Extremely well done. You have also contributed to expanding the reality that people that criticise this baboon uprising are not all insane car bombers exclusively from within the godless community.
Really Becky, your idiocy stands out like tits on a bull to anyone, anywhere that’s prepared to view the world unfiltered by Skepchick glasses. Thanks for making our movements look STUPID Becky. No one can do it quite like you. Not even the Baboon King.
And Mandy, don’t you dare stop making videos either. The baboons will attack you, yes – they always do. Ignore them. They are incoherent imbeciles that feed on those they think they may make feel vulnerable. You are under no obligation to take their idiocy seriously – in real terms it’s no different to stepping in dogshit. Just scrape it off and keep walking.

That’s a really good video. If I had a Youtube account, I would upvote it. 🙂

P.S. Silly, but…
Franc, be honest, are you felchgrogan? The only thing that makes me doubt it is the “{applause}” at the beginning, because I’ve never seen you emote. Ever.

Dunno. How’s your agar man?
October 19, 2011 at 5:02 pm
Loosened me right up. Okay, I’ll be quiet now…

Actually, in all seriousness, Felch is dead. He died earlier this year.

I made an oblique mention of this in a previous comment. Its hilarious when you see what each of the words mean.
The newspaper article is funny too.. how many tricks do you have up your sleeve Franc?

Well, yes, that was entertaining. Pretty amateur, and she really, really needs an anti-pop mic, but still, yes, very entertaining.
October 19, 2011 at 3:50 pm
Amateur? She admits it. She’s entitled to look amateurish. She doesn’t swindle CFI subscribers for all-expense paid
bendersjunkets or demand blind, uncritical belief in the face of idiocy. Unlike other folks who I can’t quite think of right now… But at least she knows how to articulate and support an argument without having a tantrum.October 19, 2011 at 4:11 pm
Not a criticism Franc, just an observation. I said I liked it, didn’t I?
I suspect you and I might disagree about the so-called democratization of, among other things, music due to technology.
That might sound like a non sequitur, but it’s not, really.
Franc said:

Support yes, and without tantrums yes, also without hyperbole, name-calling, and explicit wishes for the death of others — and what a relief that is — but I have some trouble with some of her articulations.
But, as you say, being an amateur she’s allowed such minor short comings, especially as she is not, as she herself emphasizes, being paid for it; idolized for it; lauded for it, etc.

Wasn’t nitpicking. Just highlighting the Becky vs. anti-Becky dichotomy. Cheap caricature vs. real person.

John G is right about the mic, and the presentation. It was really good stuff, and had some A plus moments, but if this woman is able to handle criticism, her next videos could be much better.
I think if she went back and did some editing, it’s a video that could work well and most importantly–stay beyond the pale of the critics who will only hear the mic pop’s pauses ( and even you noted the effect of umm…and…ah…and pauses).
In other words–this woman’s criticism is good raw, but better processed. Especially the ‘what the hell is skepticism’ moments, and the critique of the RW femflation.
Here’s a thought: “when your face, and your facts start to fail you–feminism!”

Best YouTube comment ever:
“I think for any speaker (male or female) at these events, we should be able to question just what it is that distinguishes them from the audience such that they are the ones talking rather than listening.
Whenever I see RW speak, I often think that surely there must be members of the audience who are more academically qualified, more interesting and more knowledgeable, and who should be speaking in her place. I personally know MANY women who should be speaking but are not even considered.”
Sums up my thoughts exactly.

Darren, the problem is that these other intelligent, articulate and educated women fail in one very important regard – they aren’t entitled.
Becky is.

She has explicitly engineered the situation to be as such.
A lot of hard work for a slacktivist.
But parasites often must do some hard work before they can lie back and rely on others for easy income.
Usually it is in order that said parasite might spawn offspring.
A chilling thought indeed.
Watson has managed to spawn her lazy nun-victim puritan self-aggrandising meme to several hosts now, although I expect that Greta Christina did not contract said mind-virus from Watson, merely vector.

Rebecca Watson loves to answer all criticism with, “You’re a horrible misogynist.” It’s really easy for her to do that. After all, women can accuse men of anything, and they’ll instantly be believed. But don’t call that privilege, boys and girls, because Becky doesn’t believe that she has any privileges, even though she employs it with every vapid retort. Rebecca doesn’t have time to listen to how unfair it is to instantly silence men with character assassination.
Addressing Rebecca:
Dear sweet princess, if you’re going to accuse men of having privilege, then it becomes imperative to show evidence of the contrary. To deny them that is… well… SEXIST. Not to mention unskeptical (wait, that’s not a word!). I mean, Becky, you’re not even giving them the courtesy of responding to your accusation.
I mean, aren’t you the one who constantly upholds the virtues of critical thinking, which believes that no belief, regardless of how strong, is above criticism? And yet there you sit on your mighty perch, telling people to shut up for merely defending themselves?
Considering how angry you get when creationists or pseudo-science practitioners do the exact same thing, I would think that you would have the courtesy to let people speak instead of publicly assassinating their character before they have a chance to respond.
If you have such a problem with privilege in our society, then stop hiding behind yours, Becky.
